Hard water can
be detrimental to your plumbing
system, as it can cause limescale to build up. Hard water is the
result of high mineral content in the water; one way to identify it
is the water appears a bit cloudy when poured into a glass. There’s
no need to worry, though; these minerals won’t harm you. In fact,
they do quite the opposite. Unfortunately, they can reduce the
lifespan of your hot water system, as well as other bathroom
fixtures, significantly.
Aside
from cloudy water, another way to identify if you have hard water is
if you find buildup of limescale on plug holes and taps. Water spots
on your plates after you’ve washed them is also a determining
factor. White clothes that look a bit dull and dingy is another sign
that you have hard water.
If
you find hard water in your plumbing, then look to have a water
softener installed by a certified plumber. You’ll find that soap
will lather much better once you install a water softener. Still,
hard water is much better for your health to drink, so it is
advisable to put a water softener only on taps you won’t be
drinking from.
